I. A1 MOTORWAY (Bucharest - Nadlac)

Bucharest - Pitesti: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Pitesti - Sibiu: Work on feasibility study resumed, after contract was suspended earlier in 2016. Opening date according to official statements is 2021, which is seen as optimistic. Sibiu ringroad is opened to traffic (17.2km).

Sibiu - Orastie: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Orastie - Deva: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Deva - Lugoj: First stretch of motorway opened in 2017 was a partial opening on segment 1 of Deva - Lugoj (15km). Section 1 is open, while works continue on the remaining part of section 2 and on sections 3 and 4. Opening dates for all of these should be by year-end 2017, but some work will probably continue beyond this year.

Lugoj - Timisoara, Timisoara - Arad and Arad - Nadlac are all opened.

II. A3 MOTORWAY (Bucharest - Bors)

Bucharest - Ploiesti: 55.5km of this section are open to traffic. Work continues on the final 3.3km of the remaining 6.5km on this section. Opening date should be in 2017 but status is unclear.

Ploiesti - Brasov: Tender for a short section of 6km between Rasnov and Cristian could be finalized in the near future, with work starting this year. No other relevant news and no other sections in under construction or open to traffic.

Brasov - Targu Mures: No sections open or under construction. This stretch has been dropped from official plans, with access to Transylvania replaced by A10 Sebes - Turda motorway, currently under construction.

Targu Mures - Gilau: 52km on this section are opened to traffic, while for the remaining 56.5 km there are contract signed (with the exception of segment 1 for which the re-tender is close to completion). Opening dates by the end of 2017 according to official statements, but seen as too optimistic. Procedures related ti starting work are advancing very slow.

Gilau - Bors: Works continue on Gilau - Nadasel, with opening due in 2017 (optimistic). Tender in progress for access bridge to Gilau - Nadasel. Constract is signed for Nadasel - Mihaiesti with works expected to start in the near future.

III. A10 MOTORWAY (Sebes - Turda)

Works in progress for all four segments, slowed down due to various procedures. Completion estimated in 2017 for two segments and 2018 for the other two.

The only segment open on A6: Lugoj - Calafat consists of 11km opened in 2013; this route will not be extended via motorway. The only segment open on A11: Arad - Oradea consists of 3.5km connecting A1 and DN7.

Renewed optimism for Targu Mures - Iasi - Ungheni motorway including updating of feasibility study and construction starting "before 2020". It was announced that some procedures could be launched for Craiova - Pitesti motorway as well. Finally, increasing interest for a Timisoara - Belgrade motorway from both Romania and Serbia.

Motorways A2: Bucharest - Constanta and A4: Constanta Ringroad are completed with entire length opened to traffic. Additionally, 11km between Balint and Lugoj ringroad are opened on the proposed A6 Lugoj - Calafat motorway and 3.5km between Arad and DN7 are opened on the proposed A11 Arad - Oradea motorway.
