Romanian Motorways Quarterly Review - Q3 2015

Find below a review of relevant news for each Romanian motorway project:

I. A1 MOTORWAY (Bucharest - Nadlac)

Bucharest - Pitesti: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Pitesti - Sibiu: No significant news for this section. Works could start in 2017, not in 2016 as announced preivously. Sibiu ringroad is opened to traffic (17.2km).

Sibiu - Orastie: Bad news for this section: segment 3 was closed for repairs after only 9 months since opening. Estimated opening date: November 2015. Segments 1, 2 and 4 are open.

Orastie - Deva: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Deva - Lugoj: Works in progress, several updated images with construction works were published in the past few months. 17km of segment 1 of this section are currently open for traffic; estimated openings in 2015 are the remaining length of segment 1 and 17km of segment 2, while the remaining length of segment 2 and segments 3 and 4 will be opened in 2016.

Lugoj - Timisoara: Works in progress on segment 2 (segment 1 already opened to traffic). Estimated opening of segment 2 in 2015.

Timisoara - Arad: Entire length opened to traffic as of the writing of this article.

Arad - Nadlac: The final 11km of this section were opened in July 2015; currently, the entire length is opened for traffic.

II. A3 MOTORWAY (Bucharest - Bors)

Bucharest - Ploiesti: 55.5km of this section are open to traffic. The remaining 6.5km are more challenging. Contractors interested for executing 3km of this stretch were announced, but the tender process was not finalised.

Ploiesti - Brasov: After the contract for Comarnic-Brasov was canceled, new tenders were launched for the end segments of Comarnic-Brasov. The tenders are ongoing.

Brasov - Targu Mures: No news on this section with the exception of some expropriation procedures. There are no segments open or under construction on this section.

Targu Mures - Gilau: 52km on this section are opened to traffic, while for the remaining 56.5 km contracts were signed this year. No major news in the past three months with the exception of some expropriation procedures.

Gilau - Bors: The contract to resume works on Suplacu de Barcau - Bors was signed, but works have not started. Works continue on Gilau - Nadasel with new pictures being published. III. A10 MOTORWAY (Sebes - Turda)

Works in progress for all four segments, but slowed down due to beaurocratic procedures. Completion estimated in 2016.

IV. OTHER PROJECTS

No major news on other proposed motorways, with the exception of an opinion that any new project cannot start sooner than 2022. On the A6 motorway (Lugoj - Calafat) the only section opened to traffic consists of 11km opened in December 2013; no further news on this project.

V. COMPLETED MOTORWAYS

Motorways A2: Bucharest - Constanta and A4: Constanta Ringroad are completed with entire length opened to traffic.
